Settings
Set the Page Monitoring defaults for new pages, default labels, the weekly top pages list, and the kinds of change that VitalSentinel records but never flags.
To open the settings, select Page Monitoring > Settings in the sidebar. The screen has four cards. Only workspace owners and admins can change them.
For the settings of one page, open the page and select the Settings tab. See Watching Pages.
Defaults
Check every sets the interval for new pages when the person who adds them does not select one. The options depend on your plan. The change saves immediately.
The card also has two links:
- Set up alerts opens the Alerts page of the domain. See Page Monitoring alerts.
- Email, in-app and digest settings opens your notification settings. See Notifications.
Default labels
New pages get these labels, unless you select other labels when you add them. Labels group and filter your pages.
- Click Add label.
- Enter one label, for example
pricing. A label can have up to 50 characters and cannot contain commas. - Click Add.
Keep my top pages watched
When this setting is on, VitalSentinel watches the pages with the most Google clicks. It updates the list every week. This setting needs Google Search Console.
- Turn on Keep my top pages watched.
- In Pages to keep watched, enter the number of pages. The default is 25. The maximum is the room left in your plan.
- Click Save.
Pages that this list adds show Top pages, kept current in the Watched pages table. If a page is not one of your top pages for two weeks, VitalSentinel pauses it. The page then shows Paused – left top pages. If it comes back into your top pages, the checks start again. To keep watching a paused page, open it and click Resume checks.
The card shows how many pages the list keeps watched, when it updates next, and what the last update did.
Ignored changes
This card lists the kinds of change that VitalSentinel still records but never flags or emails you about.
A rule comes from one of two places:
- You selected This is normal… > On every page, now and later on a change. (The dialog calls this list "Exceptions".)
- You added a rule on this card.
To add a rule:
- Click Add rule.
- In Kind of change, select a kind, or Any change.
- Optional: in Only on pages matching, enter a pattern, for example
/category/*. Leave it empty for every page.*matches any characters. - In How long, select Never ends, For 7 days, For 30 days or For 90 days.
- Click Add rule.
To change a rule, click the edit button on its row, change the values, then click Save changes. To delete a rule, click the delete button. VitalSentinel then flags the matching changes again.
You can ignore most kinds of change. Some kinds have more specific options, for example Main content – word count or Response headers and speed – speed and size. You cannot ignore Blocked by robots.txt, analytics tags or your page elements.
