Link the VitalSentinel SEO Extension to your VitalSentinel account to see CrUX, Google Search Console, Google index and Web Analytics data for the pages that you monitor.
When you sign in, the extension shows the data that VitalSentinel has for the page that you have open. It shows this data only for the domains that your workspaces monitor. Signing in is optional. Every report except the VitalSentinel tab works without an account.
Before you start
- You need a VitalSentinel account. To create one, click Start free in Settings or Start monitoring free on the VitalSentinel tab.
- You must accept the Terms first. See Accept the Terms.
- Offline mode must be off. In offline mode, the extension does not contact VitalSentinel. See Settings.
- To use Watch this page, you must be an owner or an admin of the workspace. See Roles.
Sign in to the extension
- Open the popup and click Sign in at the bottom of the sidebar.
- VitalSentinel opens in a new window. If you are not logged in to the app, log in.
- On the approval page, select the workspaces that the extension can use.
- Click Approve.
The window closes. The bottom of the sidebar shows your name or email address. If you have more than one workspace, it also shows the number of workspaces.
You can also sign in from the VitalSentinel tab or from Settings. Both use the button Sign in with VitalSentinel.
The approval page
The approval page shows the app "VitalSentinel browser extension". It shows the access that the extension asks for:
- Read access to your workspaces and domains.
- Read access to the Google Search Console, indexing, CrUX, Web Analytics and Page Monitoring data of your domains.
- Access to add pages to Page Monitoring and to stop watching them.
The extension can use only the workspaces that you select on this page. For more about the approval page, see Connected apps.
What you see after you sign in
The extension compares the host of the current page with the domains of your workspaces. It does this in the browser. A page matches a domain when its host is the same, the same without www, or a subdomain of that domain.
For a page that matches, the extension loads the last 90 days of VitalSentinel data:
| Data | Where it shows |
|---|---|
| CrUX data | Overview, Performance and the VitalSentinel tab |
| Google Search Console: clicks, impressions, CTR, position and top queries | Monitored in VitalSentinel on Overview, Content and the VitalSentinel tab |
| Google index: status, last crawl and Google canonical | Overview, Indexability and the VitalSentinel tab |
| Web Analytics: page views, visitors, visits and bounce rate | Overview and the VitalSentinel tab |
If VitalSentinel has no Google Search Console, CrUX or Web Analytics data for the exact page, the extension shows the data of the whole domain. The chip Whole domain marks this data.
For a page on a domain that your workspaces do not monitor, the reports show only what the browser measures. The VitalSentinel tab then offers to add the domain. See VitalSentinel tab.
The page data and Watch this page use no API credits. The Data access log of the workspace records each request of the extension, without the page address. Owners and admins can see it.
How fresh the data is
The extension keeps the data of a page for up to one hour. To load new data, click Refresh on the VitalSentinel tab. The extension keeps your account details and your domain list for up to one hour too. If you add a domain in the app, the extension can need up to one hour to see it.
Sign out
- In the popup sidebar, click Settings.
- In the Account section, click Sign out.
When you sign out, the extension revokes its access in the app, and the row VitalSentinel browser extension goes away from Connected apps. The extension also deletes your account details and the cached VitalSentinel data from the browser.
If offline mode is on, the extension signs out only in the browser, and the row stays in Connected apps. To remove it, revoke the access in the app.
On the VitalSentinel tab, a site that your workspaces do not monitor also shows Wrong account? Sign out.
Revoke access in the app
You can also remove the access of the extension in the app. If you remove the extension from the browser, its access stays. Do this if you removed the extension, or if you lost the device.
- In the app, click your avatar at the top right, then click User settings.
- In the API group of the sidebar, click Connected apps.
- On the row VitalSentinel browser extension, click Revoke access.
- Click Revoke access again to confirm.
After this, the extension cannot load your data. It deletes the cached account data and asks you to sign in again. See Connected apps.
Troubleshooting
Why does the VitalSentinel tab say that my site is not monitored?
The extension shows data only for the domains of the workspaces that you selected on the approval page. Check that the domain is in one of these workspaces. If it is in another workspace, sign out, sign in again and select that workspace.
What does "Some data needs more access" mean?
Your sign-in does not include the access for some data. Sign out and sign in again, then approve the access.
What does "Your session ended. Sign in again." mean?
The app does not accept the sign-in of the extension any more. Somebody revoked the access in Connected apps, or the session expired. Click Sign in and approve the access again.
Why is the Watch this page button not available?
Only workspace owners and admins can add or remove watched pages. If you are a member, the button is disabled.
