Install the extension
Add the VitalSentinel SEO Extension to Chrome or Microsoft Edge, accept the Terms and set your first privacy choices.
You add the VitalSentinel SEO Extension from the extension store of your browser. The first time that you open the extension, it asks you to accept the Terms and to make two privacy choices.
Before you start
- Use Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, version 120 or later.
- You do not need a VitalSentinel account to install the extension or to use the page reports.
Install in Chrome
- Open the Chrome Web Store.
- Search for "VitalSentinel SEO Extension".
- Open the extension page and click Add to Chrome.
- Confirm the installation in the browser dialog.
Install in Microsoft Edge
- Open Microsoft Edge Add-ons.
- Search for "VitalSentinel SEO Extension".
- Open the extension page and click Get.
- Confirm the installation in the browser dialog.
Pin the icon to the toolbar
The browser can hide the icon of a new extension in its extensions menu. Pin the icon to open the extension with one click.
- In the browser toolbar, click the extensions icon (the puzzle piece).
- Find VitalSentinel in the list.
- Click the pin icon next to it.
Accept the Terms
The first time that you open the popup, the extension shows the welcome screen "Welcome to VitalSentinel SEO Extension". The extension shows no report until you accept the Terms. Until then, it sends nothing to VitalSentinel and counts nothing. You also cannot sign in. Settings shows the same welcome screen until you accept the Terms.
- Open a website and click the VitalSentinel icon.
- Set the two switches. See Privacy choices.
- Click Agree and continue.
When you click Agree and continue, you accept the VitalSentinel Terms and Conditions. You also confirm that you read the Privacy Policy.
If VitalSentinel publishes a new version of the Terms, the popup shows the screen again. The extension keeps your earlier choices.
Privacy choices
| Switch | Starts | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Domain Rating on the icon | On | Sends the domain of each site that you visit to VitalSentinel, which gets its Domain Rating from Ahrefs. The extension never sends the full address |
| Share usage and error counts | Off | Once a day, sends counts of the features that you used and of the errors. It never sends the pages that you visit |
You can change both choices later in Settings.
Pages that were open before the install
The extension records the status, the redirects and the response headers of a page while the page loads. For a tab that was open before you installed the extension, it has no record. Reload the page, then open the popup again.
Remove the extension
- Open the extensions page of the browser:
chrome://extensionsin Chrome oredge://extensionsin Edge. - Find the extension and click Remove.
When you remove the extension, the browser deletes all the data that the extension stored. If you are signed in, also revoke the access of the extension in the app. See Sign in.
