Indexing Monitoring

Pages

The Indexing Monitoring Pages table lists every checked page with its Google status, Googlebot visits, clicks and history, with a detail panel for each page.

View as Markdown

The Pages page of Indexing Monitoring lists every page that VitalSentinel asked Google about, with the status that Google last reported. Use it to look up one page, or to find all pages with the same problem.

Before you start

Open Indexing Monitoring > Pages in the sidebar. The page needs a linked Google Search Console property. If no property is linked, the page shows "Link a Google Search Console property to see every page's indexing status". See Connect Google Search Console.

Members can see the table and open each page. Only workspace owners and admins can add a page to the daily checks.

Tabs

Four tabs above the table of Indexing Monitoring Pages split the checked pages into groups. Each tab shows the same table with fewer pages:

TabPages
All pagesEvery page that VitalSentinel checked. This tab opens by default.
In GooglePages Google has in its index. They need no action.
ProblemsPages Google skipped, cannot reach or dropped. Fix the pages that you want in search first.
Waiting or expectedPages that are out of the index on purpose, or that Google does not know yet. Most get indexed with time.

The groups are the same as the tiles on the Overview.

The Pages table

Each row of the Indexing Monitoring Pages table is one page. Click a column header to sort. By default, the newest check is first.

ColumnWhat it shows
PageThe address. Icons after it show facts from other modules, for example speed or the page's answer.
StatusGoogle's status in plain words. Hover it for Google's own words and the date of the check.
GooglebotVerified Googlebot fetches in the last 28 days, from your server logs. Hover it for the last visit.
ClicksClicks from Google Search in the last 90 days, from Google Search Console.
RevenueThe revenue of the orders from visits that landed on the page from Google in the last 90 days, from Web Analytics.
Last crawlWhen Googlebot last visited the page, as Google reports it.
Last checkWhen VitalSentinel last asked Google about the page.

Last crawl and Last check are different. Google crawls on its own schedule. VitalSentinel asks Google on the schedule in How Indexing Monitoring chooses the pages to check.

Googlebot, Clicks and Revenue

The Googlebot column shows only when Server Log Monitoring is connected. If it is not connected, the table shows "See how often Googlebot visits each page" with a Connect server logs button. In the Googlebot column, a dash means that the logs do not cover the page. A 0 means that the logs cover the page and Googlebot did not come.

In the Clicks column, a 0 means that the page showed in search and nobody clicked. A dash means that Search Console has no data yet. If Search Console is not connected, owners and admins can click the Clicks header to connect it.

The Revenue column needs Web Analytics with conversion tracking. Hover a figure for the number of orders. If a figure cannot load, the cell shows a dash with "Couldn't load". Reload the page to try again.

Row actions

Each row has two actions on the right:

  • Open in…: opens the same page in another VitalSentinel module, for example Site Health Monitoring.
  • The eye icon: watches the page in Page Monitoring. A watched page shows "Watching in Page Monitoring".

Filters

Use the filter bar at the bottom of the screen to narrow the Indexing Monitoring Pages table. A filter works inside the selected tab. These fields are available:

FieldWhat it matches
URLText in the address, or a pattern.
StatusOne or more Google statuses. The list shows only the statuses of the selected tab.
IssueA kind of problem, for example Canonical conflict, Not in any sitemap or Stale crawl – 90+ days.
ChangeA move in the last 7 days, for example Lost indexing or Newly indexed.
SectionA group from your section rules, for example Blog. "Other pages" is what no rule claims.
LanguageThe language in the address, for example de or en-IN.
GroupA URL group that a Search Console property covers. Shows only when you have groups.
PropertyThe Search Console property the page was checked from. Shows only with two or more properties.
Days since last crawlDays since Google last crawled the page.
Days since last checkDays since VitalSentinel last asked Google.
Google clicks (90 days)Clicks from Google Search in the last 90 days.

Switches

  • Recently changed: shows only the pages that changed in the last 24 hours. If no page changed, the table shows "No page has changed in the last 24 hours".
  • This site only: on by default. A Domain property in Search Console also reports other hosts of the domain. Turn the switch off to see them. A Host column then shows the host of each page.

For how the filter bar works (rules joined with And or Or, and groups), see Using the app.

Empty tables

  • "No pages checked yet": the first round of checks is not done. Pages appear within 24 hours.
  • "No page with a problem": Google reported no problem with any checked page.
  • "No pages match your filters": the tab and the filters together match no page. Try All pages, or remove a filter.

The page panel

Click a row of the Indexing Monitoring Pages table to open the panel of that page. The address of the open page is in the browser address, so you can share the link. Use the arrows in the header to go to the previous or the next page of the list.

Panel header

The header shows the address and a link to open the page in a new tab. Under it are:

  • The status chip, and Checked with the date of the check.
  • For a page in Google, Since and the date when this status started. Hover it for the status history.
  • The name of the URL group, if the page is in one.

On the right, the Google icon opens the URL Inspection result in Google Search Console. Owners and admins also see Check this page daily. This adds the page to your priority pages, so VitalSentinel checks it every day, ahead of the sitemap rotation. Click Stop daily checks to remove it. The tooltip shows how many of the 200 priority pages you use.

If Google did not check the page yet

The panel shows "Not checked by Google yet". VitalSentinel asks Google about a sample of your pages every day, and this page did not come up yet. To check it first, click Check this page daily.

If the answer cannot load, the panel shows "Google's answer for this page could not be read". Close the panel and open the page again.

The Overview tab of the panel

The Overview tab of the Indexing Monitoring page panel has these sections, from top to bottom.

Verdict

For a page that is not in Google, a banner at the top says what Google reported in plain words. Under it, one line tells how the status came about, for example "Crawled, not indexed since Oct 12, 2026. It was in Google before that, and in 8 of 10 checks." For the steps to fix the page, click Issues in Site Health Monitoring.

What changed since Google dropped it

This section shows only for a page that is not in Google. It lists what changed after the last check that found the page in Google: robots.txt, the page itself, Googlebot's answers, the sitemap and deploys. These changes may or may not be the reason. If a module is not set up, the section tells you. For example: "Server Log Monitoring is not set up, so Googlebot's answers were not checked."

What Google checked

This section gives the five answers of URL Inspection in plain words. Hover an answer to see Google's exact value.

RowMeaning
Allowed to be indexedNo noindex tag or header stops the page.
Google could fetch itThe page answered Googlebot. If not, the reason shows, for example "No, the page was not found (404)".
Robots.txt allows GooglebotYour robots.txt does not block the page.
Canonical agreesGoogle kept the canonical that you set. If not: "No, Google chose another address".
Rich resultsValid, Valid, with warnings, Errors found or None found.

Answers that Google did not give show in one line, for example "Google did not report: Canonical agrees."

Facts about the page

  • Last crawl: when Googlebot last visited, and if it crawled as a phone or as a desktop.
  • Next check: when VitalSentinel asks Google again, for example In the next daily run, Within 14 days or Not planned. Hover it for the reason.
  • The canonical: Canonical (Google agrees with yours), or Canonical Google chose and Canonical you set when they differ.
  • Sitemaps Google found it in and Linked from these pages: how Google found the page. If Google did not say, the panel shows "We don't know how Google found this page yet."

A page that is not in your sitemap and not on a list shows Not planned. To check it, click Check this page daily.

Rich results, AMP and history

  • Rich results: the structured data that Google found, and the issues in each type.
  • AMP version: shows only if the page has an AMP version. It gives the AMP address and Google's results for it.
  • Status over time: one segment for each period in which all checks gave the same status. Only changes are listed.

This page elsewhere

This section shows what other modules know about the page:

  • Last Googlebot hit and verified visits in 28 days, from Server Log Monitoring.
  • Search clicks, from Google Search Console. This is the same figure as the Clicks column.
  • In your sitemap, from Sitemap Monitoring. It shows Not listed if no sitemap lists the page.
  • Robots.txt: Allowed for Googlebot or Blocked for Googlebot, from Robots.txt Monitoring.

The All checks tab of the panel

The All checks tab of the Indexing Monitoring page panel lists every check of the page, newest first. The columns are Date, Status, Crawled as (Phone or Desktop) and Property. The tab keeps the 500 most recent checks.

Click a check to see the page as it was at that check, in the Overview tab. If the page has no older check, the tab shows "No past checks yet".

Google statuses and their plain names

Indexing Monitoring shows each Google status with a short plain name. The Status column, the Status filter and the panel use these names. Hover a status to see Google's exact words, so that you can find the same status in Search Console.

Each status belongs to one of the three groups of Indexing Monitoring:

GroupExample statuses (plain name, then Google's words)
In GoogleIn Google (Submitted and indexed), In Google, not in sitemap (Indexed, not submitted in sitemap)
ProblemsCrawled, not indexed (Crawled - currently not indexed), Soft 404, Server error (5xx), Another canonical chosen, and every status that starts with "Blocked", for example Blocked by robots.txt
Waiting or expectedNoindex tag (Excluded by 'noindex' tag), Redirect (Page with redirect), Unknown to Google (URL is unknown to Google)

The tooltip of each status also tells you what it means and a common cause.

What the common problem statuses mean

  • Crawled, not indexed: Google fetched the page but chose not to index it. Often the content is thin, a near-duplicate, or of low quality.
  • Discovered, not indexed: Google knows the address but did not crawl it yet. Often the cause is crawl budget, or a slow server on this address.
  • Soft 404: the page returns 200, but Google judged the content as a "page not found" page. Often the page is an empty category or an expired listing.
  • Another canonical chosen: you set a canonical, but Google picked a different one. Often the content is duplicated elsewhere.
  • Forbidden (403): the server rejects Google. Check your firewall, geo blocks or IP allow-lists.

Troubleshooting

Why does a page show "Not checked by Google yet"?

Indexing Monitoring checks your pages in a rotation. If the page is not in your sitemap, it is not in the rotation. If you want the page checked every day, click Check this page daily in its panel.

Why is the Googlebot column missing?

The Googlebot column needs Server Log Monitoring. If it is not connected, click Connect server logs above the table. See Server logs.

Why does the Last check date not change?

VitalSentinel checks each page once in each round. On a large site, one round can take many days. See the Full round tile in Settings. To check a page every day, add it to the priority pages.

Why do I see pages from another subdomain?

This site only is off. Turn it on in the filter bar to see only the pages of this site.
