# Billing & Plans
Each workspace has its own subscription plan. Manage billing, view usage, and upgrade or downgrade as needed.

VitalSentinel offers five plans. See [pricing](https://www.vitalsentinel.com/pricing) for current rates.

The Free plan's single Synthetic location is Google's Servers. Higher tiers add Custom Pods on top of Google's Servers (Lite: +1, Standard: +2, Advanced: +4).
Every plan, Free included, has [Site Health Monitoring](/site-health/introduction#plans-and-limits), [Page Monitoring](/page-monitoring/introduction#plans-and-limits) and [Sitemap Monitoring](/features/sitemap-monitoring). Sitemap Monitoring has no plan limits.
**Data retention is not a plan feature, with one exception.** Every plan keeps a given kind of data for the same length of time - 10 years of Search Console and Web Analytics history, 16 months of RUM and CrUX, 12 months of Synthetic, Uptime, robots.txt, Indexing, Server Log Monitoring and Sitemap Monitoring. The exception is the change history of Page Monitoring and Site Health Monitoring: 14 days on the Free plan and 12 months on paid plans. ## Viewing Current Plan [#viewing-current-plan]
1. Click **Billing** in the workspace sidebar
2. See your current plan, status, and renewal date
3. View usage overview with progress bars
## Usage Tracking [#usage-tracking]
Monitor your resource consumption in the **Usage Overview** section:

Below the usage bars, a note shows how long VitalSentinel keeps change history, for example "History from *date* is kept 12 months." The date shows when the history window of your current plan started.
### Usage Indicators [#usage-indicators]
Progress bars show usage status:
* **Green** - Normal usage
* **Yellow** - Approaching limit (75%+)
* **Red** - At or near limit (90%+)
## Upgrading Your Plan [#upgrading-your-plan]
### When to Upgrade [#when-to-upgrade]
Consider upgrading when:
* You're approaching your domain limit
* You're reaching your event limits
* You need faster uptime checks
### How to Upgrade [#how-to-upgrade]
1. Click **Billing** in the workspace sidebar
2. Find the plan you want under **Choose a plan**
3. Click **Upgrade**
4. Confirm the upgrade
### Upgrade Billing [#upgrade-billing]
* Your new plan activates immediately
* You're credited for unused time on your current plan
* The difference is charged to your payment method
### After an Upgrade [#after-an-upgrade]
The plan change dialog tells you what the upgrade changes for monitoring:
* If the new plan checks more pages, Site Health Monitoring makes a new page selection for the new plan in about 10 minutes.
* If the new plan keeps change history longer, the longer window applies to history from the upgrade day. History from before the upgrade keeps its old window.
## Downgrading Your Plan [#downgrading-your-plan]
### When You Can Downgrade [#when-you-can-downgrade]
You can downgrade if:
* Current usage fits within lower plan limits
* You don't need higher-tier features
### What Happens [#what-happens]
When downgrading:
* Your current plan remains active until the end of the billing period
* Your new plan takes effect on your next billing date
* You can cancel the scheduled change any time before it takes effect
A downgrade does not stop because of Page Monitoring or Site Health Monitoring usage. When the new plan takes effect, VitalSentinel changes the monitoring that is over the new limits. The plan change dialog lists these changes before you confirm:
* VitalSentinel pauses the watched pages over the limit. The oldest watched pages stay active.
* If the new plan does not allow the interval of a watched page, VitalSentinel checks the page at the fastest interval that the plan allows.
* On each watched page, VitalSentinel disables the custom elements over the per-page limit. The oldest elements stay active.
* VitalSentinel removes the pinned pages over the limit for each domain.
* If the new plan checks fewer pages, Site Health Monitoring uses a smaller page selection from its next update.
* VitalSentinel does not shorten change history that it already stored. New change history uses the window of the new plan.
### How to Downgrade [#how-to-downgrade]
1. Click **Billing** in the workspace sidebar
2. Find the plan you want under **Choose a plan**
3. Click **Downgrade**
4. Confirm the scheduled change
A banner will appear showing the scheduled plan change and effective date. Click **Keep Current Plan** to cancel the downgrade.
If your usage exceeds the new plan's limits, you may need to reduce usage before the downgrade takes effect.
## Payment Methods & Invoices [#payment-methods--invoices]
Payment methods and invoices are managed through the Stripe billing portal.
### Accessing the Billing Portal [#accessing-the-billing-portal]
1. Click **Billing** in the workspace sidebar
2. Click the **Manage** button to update payment methods
3. Click the **Invoices** button to view and download invoices
The Stripe portal opens in a new tab where you can:
* Add, update, or remove payment methods
* View all past invoices
* Download invoice PDFs
* Update billing information
### Failed Payments [#failed-payments]
If a payment fails:
1. A "Payment Required" banner appears on the billing page
2. Click **Update Payment** to fix the issue
3. Update your payment method in the Stripe portal
4. Payment will be retried automatically
## Canceling Subscription [#canceling-subscription]

Consider:
* Downgrading to a lower plan instead
* What happens to your data after the grace period
* Notifying team members
### How to Cancel [#how-to-cancel]
1. Click **Billing** in the workspace sidebar
2. Click **Cancel Subscription**
3. Review what happens when you cancel
4. Click **Cancel subscription** to confirm
### After Canceling [#after-canceling]
* Your plan remains active until the end of the current billing period
* No further charges after that
* You can resubscribe anytime to restore access
* If you don't resubscribe within the grace period, all data is permanently deleted

* 1 domain
* 25K RUM page views/month
* 100K analytics events/month
* 500K server log hits/month (Cloudflare Worker source only)
* 5 CrUX URLs
* 3 Synthetic URLs (1 location – Google's Servers)
* 5-minute uptime checks
* Daily synthetic tests
* Site Health Monitoring: 1 page every 5 minutes per domain, up to 2,500 pages checked per domain
* Page Monitoring: 5 watched pages, checked every 24 hours
* Sitemap Monitoring
* 14 days of change history in Page Monitoring and Site Health Monitoring

The Advanced plan is designed for teams with high-volume needs:
* 50 domains
* 5M RUM page views/month
* 50M analytics events/month
* 150M server log hits/month
* 5,000 CrUX URLs
* 250 Synthetic URLs across 5 locations (Google's Servers + 4 Custom Pods)
* Synthetic monitoring as often as every 8 hours
* 1-minute uptime checks

## FAQ [#faq]
### Is there a free trial? [#is-there-a-free-trial]
The Free plan serves as a trial. You can monitor one domain indefinitely at no cost.
### Can I change plans anytime? [#can-i-change-plans-anytime]
Yes, you can upgrade instantly or schedule a downgrade for the next billing cycle.
### What happens if I exceed limits? [#what-happens-if-i-exceed-limits]
You'll receive warnings as you approach your limits. If you exceed them, some features may be restricted until you upgrade or reduce usage.
For Server Log Hits, collection stops at the limit until your next billing cycle starts, or within a few minutes of an upgrade. Data already collected is kept. See [Monthly hit allowance](/server-logs/settings#monthly-hit-allowance).
For Page Monitoring and Site Health Monitoring, you cannot add watched pages, pinned pages or custom elements on a page above the limit of your plan. To add more, remove an item or upgrade your plan. If a downgrade paused a watched page, the page shows the message "This page was paused when your plan's limit of watched pages was reached."
### Do unused events roll over? [#do-unused-events-roll-over]
No, event limits reset each billing cycle and don't accumulate.
### How is billing calculated? [#how-is-billing-calculated]
Plans are billed monthly at the start of each billing cycle.
### Do you offer refunds? [#do-you-offer-refunds]
No, we do not offer refunds. The Free plan lets you test VitalSentinel before buying a paid plan. You can cancel your subscription at any time and continue using the service until the end of the current billing period.
