# Finish the setup

After the domain setup flow, some data sources can still be open. This page explains where VitalSentinel shows what is left and what each module state means. It also explains the guided walkthrough and tours.

## Before you start [#before-you-start]

- Only workspace owners and admins can connect data sources. Members see what is not connected, but they cannot change it. A member sees "Not connected – ask an owner or admin" where an owner sees a button. See [Members](/workspace/members).
- The domain must be verified. VitalSentinel checks or collects nothing before that. See [Verify ownership](/getting-started/domain-setup/verify-ownership).

The setup continues on the domain **Overview** and in the domain settings.

## The Set up more card on the Overview [#the-set-up-more-card-on-the-overview]

The domain **Overview** has a card with one row for each module that is not set up yet. Each row says what the module will show for this site and has one button. The button opens a setup panel on the same page.

| Card title | When it shows |
|---|---|
| **Set up your first sources** | No module has data yet. The card is at the top of the page, with the line "Numbers appear here within minutes to a day of connecting each one." |
| **Set up more** | Some modules have data. The card is under the tiles, with the line "Each one adds a tile to this page." |
| **Not connected** | You are a member. The card lists the modules without buttons. |

Before the domain is verified, the rows for [Site Health Monitoring](/site-health/overview) and [Page Monitoring](/page-monitoring/overview) do not show. The **Verify your domain** card is the one way to verify there. After verification, Site Health Monitoring starts by itself, so it has no row.

### The buttons in the rows [#the-buttons-in-the-rows]

| Module | Button |
|---|---|
| RUM Monitoring | **Install the script** |
| Web Analytics | **Install the script** |
| Google Search Console | **Connect Google Search Console** |
| Indexing Monitoring | **Link a property** |
| Server Log Monitoring | **Connect server logs** |
| Page Monitoring | **Pick the pages to watch** (on a verified domain only) |

See [Overview](/domain/overview) for the other parts of the page.

## The Setup card in domain settings [#the-setup-card-in-domain-settings]

Open **Settings** in the **Domain** group of the sidebar. The first card, **Setup**, lists the data sources that the domain connects: **Google Search Console**, **Web Analytics script**, **Server Log Monitoring** and **RUM script**. The sources that need your attention are at the top.

Each source has a status chip:

| Chip | Meaning | Button |
|---|---|---|
| **Connected** | Data arrives. | **Open** and the module name |
| **Waiting for data** | The source is connected, but no data has arrived yet. | **Open** and the module name |
| **Not connected** | You did not connect this source. | The connect button, for example **Install the script** |
| **Needs attention** | The source stopped sending data, or its sign-in expired. | **Reconnect** |
| **Not on your plan** | A plan limit stops new data. | None |

When all sources are connected, the card folds into one line, for example **All 4 connected**. Click **Show** to open the list and **Hide** to close it. If some sources are missing, the line says, for example, **2 of 4 connected**. See [Domain settings](/domain/settings).

## The setup panel [#the-setup-panel]

The connect buttons open a setup panel on the right side of the page. You do not leave the page.

| Panel title | What you do |
|---|---|
| **Install RUM Monitoring** | Copy the script and add it to your site. |
| **Install Web Analytics** | Copy the script and add it to your site. |
| **Connect Google Search Console** | Sign in with Google and select the property. The access is read-only. |
| **Connect Server Log Monitoring** | Select how your logs reach VitalSentinel. |
| **Verify your domain** | Set up one way to verify the domain. |

The panels have the same steps as the setup flow. See [Add a domain](/getting-started/domain-setup/add-domain).

## Module states [#module-states]

Each module page shows what it needs, based on the state of the module. The same states show in the **Setup** card, in the sidebar and on the **Dashboard**.

### Waits for verification [#waits-for-verification]

The domain is not verified. The module page shows a preview with example data, the chip **Waits for verification** and a headline, for example "Verify example.com to start Uptime Monitoring". Click **Verify domain** to open the verification panel.

### Not connected [#not-connected]

The module needs a data source that you did not connect. The page shows its layout with example data, labeled **Preview with example data**. A card in front of it has:

- A chip, for example **Not installed yet** or **Not set up yet**.
- A headline, for example "Add one script to measure real visitors".
- **What you'll get**, with up to three results and **First data**, the time until the first data arrives.
- One button to connect the source.

There is no filter bar on this page, because there is no data to filter.

### Waiting for data [#waiting-for-data]

The source is connected, but no data has arrived yet. The page shows **Waiting for the first data** and one line. You do not have to do anything. The page fills in by itself.

| Module | Line |
|---|---|
| RUM Monitoring, Web Analytics | "The script is on your page. Numbers appear within minutes of a visit." |
| Google Search Console | "Google Search Console data is usually 2–3 days behind." |
| Indexing Monitoring | "Results fill in as pages are inspected." |
| Server Log Monitoring | "Reports fill in as your server logs requests." |
| Other modules | "Results appear here as soon as the first checks have run." |

### Needs attention [#needs-attention]

The module worked before and then stopped, or its sign-in expired. A notice above the data says what stopped, since when, and what to do. The history stays, with the note "Your history is kept." Examples:

- [RUM Monitoring](/rum-monitoring/overview) and [Web Analytics](/web-analytics/overview): "No new data from" the domain, with **Last data** and the button **Reinstall the script**.
- [Google Search Console](/google-search-console/overview): **Google needs you to sign in again**, with **Reconnect Google**.
- [Server Log Monitoring](/server-logs/overview): **Your log source stopped delivering**, with **Fix the log source**.

### Not on your plan [#not-on-your-plan]

[A plan limit](/workspace/plans-and-limits) stops new data. The notice says, for example, that the module "has reached this month's limit". It also says "Data collected so far stays. New data is not stored until the limit resets." A meter shows the use and the reset date.

The workspace owner sees **Compare plans**. An admin sees **Ask your workspace owner**, which copies a message. See [Billing](/workspace/billing).

## Guided walkthrough and tours [#guided-walkthrough-and-tours]

VitalSentinel has two guided tours. A tour moves from page to page and shows a card next to each part of the page. A tour never starts by itself. VitalSentinel asks one time, and you can start a tour again at any time.

| Tour | What it shows | Who is offered it |
|---|---|---|
| **Walkthrough** | Every page and tab, one module at a time, in plain words. | The person who sets up the first domain of a workspace. |
| **Quick tour** | A few stops that show the most useful places. | Invited members. |

### How to start a tour [#how-to-start-a-tour]

- On the **Done** step of the setup flow, click **Show me everything** for the walkthrough, or **Quick tour**.
- When VitalSentinel asks **Want a look around?** or **Take a quick tour?**, click **Show me everything** or **Quick tour**. Click **Not now** to close the question. It does not come back.
- Open the chat with Theo and click **Tour this page** to see a tour of the page that you are on.

### The tour card [#the-tour-card]

Each tour card shows a title, a short text, the step number and dots for the progress. The card has these buttons:

- **Next** goes to the next stop. On the last stop, the button is **Finish**.
- **Back** goes to the previous stop.
- **Skip this module** goes to the next module of the walkthrough.
- **Skip the tour** closes the quick tour.
- The close button closes the tour. Its tooltip says "Close the tour. Your place is kept."

You can also use the left and right arrow keys. Some stops have a button to set up the module of that stop. If a part of the page is not there, for example because a module has no data, the tour goes to the next stop.

### Resume the walkthrough [#resume-the-walkthrough]

The walkthrough keeps your place for each domain. If you close it, you can ask Theo to start it again. It continues from the stop where you stopped.

## Troubleshooting [#troubleshooting]

### Where do I see which data sources are still missing? [#where-do-i-see-which-data-sources-are-still-missing]

Use the **Set up more** card on the domain **Overview**, or the **Setup** card in the domain settings.

### Why does a module say "Waiting for the first data" for a long time? [#why-does-a-module-say-waiting-for-the-first-data-for-a-long-time]

If the module uses a script, open a page of your site and check that the script is on it. If the module uses Google Search Console, wait. Google Search Console data is usually 2 to 3 days behind. For other modules, wait for the first check. If nothing arrives after that, contact support.

### Why do I not see any setup buttons? [#why-do-i-not-see-any-setup-buttons]

You are a member of the workspace. Members can read domain pages, but they cannot connect sources. Ask a workspace owner or admin.

### How do I see the tour offer again? [#how-do-i-see-the-tour-offer-again]

The offer shows only one time. Open the chat with Theo and click **Tour this page**, or ask Theo to start the walkthrough.
