# SEO Extension: Settings

The Settings page of the extension has five sections: **Account**, **JavaScript rules**, **Toolbar icon**, **Data sources and privacy** and **Keyboard shortcuts**. The extension saves each change immediately.

## Before you start [#before-you-start]

To open Settings, open the popup and click **Settings** in the **Tools** group of the sidebar. Settings opens in a new tab.

If you did not accept the Terms yet, Settings shows the welcome screen first. See [Accept the Terms](/browser-extension/install#accept-the-terms).

## Account [#account]

If you are not signed in, the section shows two buttons:

- **Start free** opens the sign-up page of VitalSentinel.
- **Sign in with VitalSentinel** links the extension to your account. See [Sign in](/browser-extension/sign-in).

If you are signed in, the section shows your name or email address and "Signed in with VitalSentinel". It also lists the workspaces that the extension can use. Click **Sign out** to sign out.

## JavaScript rules [#javascript-rules]

This section lists the JavaScript rules that you made, and lets you add, change, remove and export rules. See [JavaScript switcher](/browser-extension/javascript-switcher#manage-the-rules-in-settings).

## Toolbar icon [#toolbar-icon]

| Switch | Default | What it does |
|--------|---------|--------------|
| **Show Domain Rating on the badge** | On | Shows the Domain Rating of the site on the badge. It needs the **Domain Rating lookup** switch below |
| `Colour the badge by Core Web Vitals` | Off | Colors the badge green, amber or red from the LCP, INP and CLS of the page load. The extension makes no request for this |

See [Toolbar badge and Domain Rating](/browser-extension/toolbar-badge).

## Data sources and privacy [#data-sources-and-privacy]

| Switch | Default | What it does |
|--------|---------|--------------|
| **Domain Rating lookup** | The choice that you made on the welcome screen | Sends the domain of each site that you visit to VitalSentinel, which looks up its Domain Rating with Ahrefs. It sends no full address |
| **Remember pages for "Changed since your last visit"** | On | Keeps a short summary of each page that you open in this browser for 30 days |
| **Offline mode** | Off | Stops all requests to VitalSentinel. The extension contacts only the site that you are on |
| **Share usage and error counts** | The choice that you made on the welcome screen | Once a day, sends counts of the features that you used and of the errors. It never sends the pages that you visit |

When you turn off a switch, its requests stop immediately.

### Page history [#page-history]

The **Remember pages** switch controls the section **Changed since your last visit** in the [Overview report](/browser-extension/overview-report#changed-since-your-last-visit).

- To delete the stored summaries, click **Clear history**. The message shows the number of pages that the extension deleted, or "Nothing to clear".
- If you turn off the switch, the extension also deletes all the stored summaries.

### Offline mode [#offline-mode]

When offline mode is on, the extension makes no request to VitalSentinel and to no other host except the site that you are on:

- No Domain Rating lookup. The badge shows no Domain Rating.
- No VitalSentinel data, no sign-in and no sign-out request. The VitalSentinel data shows "Offline mode is on. Turn it off in Settings to load this."
- No usage and error counts. The extension deletes the counts that it did not send yet.
- No favicon in the Google snippet preview.
- No images, not even from the site that you are on, because an image can redirect to another host.
- No sitemaps from other hosts.
- Link checks only for links on the same host.

The extension still fetches robots.txt, the sitemaps and the raw HTML from the site that you are on.

### Usage and error counts [#usage-and-error-counts]

The counts help VitalSentinel fix bugs and improve features. The extension sends one report for each day that you used it, on the next day. It sends the report without a sign-in token, cookies or any identifier. They never contain addresses, domains, page content or check results. See [Privacy and permissions](/browser-extension/privacy-and-permissions#usage-and-error-counts).

If you turn off the switch, the extension deletes the counts that it did not send yet.

## Keyboard shortcuts [#keyboard-shortcuts]

`Alt+Shift+Q` turns JavaScript on or off for the current site. To change the shortcut, click **Change shortcuts**. The shortcuts page of the browser opens.
