# SEO Extension: Introduction

The VitalSentinel SEO Extension is a free extension for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. It checks the page that you have open in the browser. With one click, you see on-page SEO, indexability, Core Web Vitals and technical checks for that page.

The extension does the checks in your browser. Most reports work without a VitalSentinel account. If you sign in, the extension also shows the data that VitalSentinel has for the sites that you monitor.

## Before you start [#before-you-start]

- **Browsers.** Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, version 120 or later.
- **Account.** You do not need an account for the page reports. To see your VitalSentinel data in the extension, sign in with a VitalSentinel account. See [Sign in](/browser-extension/sign-in).
- **Pages.** The extension checks `http` and `https` pages. It cannot check browser pages, the Chrome Web Store or local files.
- **Install.** See [Install the extension](/browser-extension/install).

## The popup [#the-popup]

Click the VitalSentinel icon in the browser toolbar to open the popup. The popup has a sidebar on the left and the report on the right.

| Sidebar group | Items |
|---------------|-------|
| **This page** | **Overview**, **On-page**, **Crawl and index**, **Performance** and **Technical** |
| **Your site** | **VitalSentinel**. A lock icon shows when you are not signed in |
| **Tools** | The **JavaScript** switch and **Settings** |

A group with more than one report opens when you click it, and shows its reports. A closed group shows the number of issues in its reports. A red number means that at least one issue is an error. An amber number means warnings only.

The bottom of the sidebar shows the **Sign in** button. After you sign in, it shows your name or email address.

The popup remembers the last report for each tab. If you open the popup again on the same address, it opens that report. The popup uses the dark or light mode of your system.
